Fixed Wing Training
We hold fixed
wing training sessions which are becoming more and more popular as word spreads
of our facilities, training aircraft and the level and professionalism of our
resident instructors all of whom hold the BMFA 'B' certificate and are insured
to carry out instruction on a commercial basis.

Of course there would be no training
without an aircraft and the model which is creating a huge impact on our
trainees is the Scallywag 2 which is shown
in the photographs below. Apart from being one of our least expensive models
the students all agree that it's forgiving performance allows them plenty of
time to adjust to those unusual situations which are inevitable during training
sessions.

Most students find that an hour's training is more than enough for the first
few sessions, although many then subsequently book two or more lessons throughout
a day which allows them to consolidate what they have just learnt prior to
trying to put it into practice during their next training flight. Students
can relax with a coffee under cover of the Scallywag vehicle's canopy and absorb
even more useful information and tips as they watch other students under-going
their training. You will also be encouraged to bring along your own model either
to receive help and advice on construction or even to have it checked out
and test flown which is the whole end purpose of receiving training in the
first place! We are as keen as you are to get you going solo and you will discover
that you are progressing much quicker than you might at first think - a week
really is a very short time when learning to fly a fixed wing model aircraft.
Using the buddy box system prevents those heart stopping moments when something
is going wrong very quickly and in such situations the instructor is able to
release the buddy switch and regain full control of the model before getting
it back into a position where once again the student is able to resume control
of the model.

We have already mentioned just how popular the
Scallywag 2 is amongst our students.
Many buy themselves one in order to be able to fly an aircraft
with which they are completely comfortable once they have passed their test
and gained their BMFA 'A' certificate. Even if you are not a rookie pilot,
we know that you will get much pleasure out of owning a Scallywag model as
all have been extensively test flown to ensure that they have predictable
characteristics worthy of bearing the Scallywag trade mark logo. You can be
sure that your chosen model will perform as well as you are capable of flying
it and will give you endless hours of satisfaction and pleasure.

Note in the above photographs
that there are two versions of the Scallywag
2 available, both having an identical fuselage and differing only in the wing
section. The fully symmetrical wing version of the Scallywag 2 enables
inverted flight
as
effortlessly as normal flight which of course means that full aerobatics
can be accomplished
with relative ease.
